What you must do depends on where you are coming from. You can find full details on immigration on the UK visas website.

Students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA)

If you are an international student coming from a country outside the European Economic Area (EEA) we recommend you check the latest immigration information on the UKCISA website.

Students from countries within the European Economic Area (EEA)

The EEA consists of the European Union (EU) countries (see the list on the right hand side of this page).

If you are an EEA national, have been accepted on a University course, and have a valid passport or national identity card, you should get automatic entry into the UK for the length of your course.

You can work in the UK. However nationals of the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia or Solvenia may be required to register as workers under the Accession State ‘Worker Registration Scheme’. All other EEA or Swiss nationals are free to take employment without permission.

You may qualify for a tuition fee loan from the Department for Education and Skills. For more information and application forms, visit www.dfes.gov.uk/studentsupport.

Under certain conditions EU/EEA nationals may be entitled to Student Support (Student Loan, supplementary grants) if they meet certain eligibility requirements. Follow this link to find out more about funding.

More information on Immigration is available on the UKCISA website.
